My Journey Into Islamic Studies

The journey started with a 10 days course during vacations called Vacation Islamic Course , aimed at educating teens/kids about the message of Islam, and from there on my curiosity grew and I was astonished to realize that Islam is not what I thought it was , it was not a religion of oppression but that of submission, and contrary to popular belief it did not make my life difficult , instead made it fuller as now I knew what I was living for .
This journey was furthered as I discovered a treasure box of knowledge in the form of a site named Islamic online university.

Islamic online university abbreviated as IOU was founded by Dr.Bilal Philips a renowned Islamic scholar , read more about him from here.
This was a turning point in my life as I discovered that Islam is so much more than fasting and praying , and although fasting and praying are an  integral part of Islam , but if not done with proper intentions these are reduced to empty rituals that do not benefit either in this world or the next.
All the pillars of Islam[1] inculcate a particular moral character in us.
And there was so much more that I learned and I was glad that finally I got to learn something that made me a better person and also be able to take it to a professional level.
So without further adieu I give a preview of IOU.Hope it benefits you as much as it has benefited me.

FAQs

Q. Who can enroll in it?
A. Anyone with a passion for learning.

Q. What does it cover?
A. It includes different modules ,each with a different theme.
For example Foundation of Islamic studies Part 1 module focuses on giving students an insight into tawheed (Oneness of God) , Purpose of creation etc.
You can view more modules in diploma section from their website https://www.islamiconlineuniversity.com/opencampus

Q. Is it only for Muslims?
A. No, anyone interested can enroll

Q. How much does it cost?
A. If you enroll for diploma they charge nothing.
However for advanced courses they charge some amount through a sliding scale fee system (Depending on whether your country of residence is developed, developing or under-developed).
View the different programs they offer from this link - http://www.islamiconlineuniversity.com/faq.php

Q. How are the courses conducted?
A. Each module has a .pdf file which you need to read , also  an optional audio/video file for further understanding.
After reading  the pdf thoroughly you are required to attempt a multiple choice question test which is scored out of 10. In case you don't score well , you can review your lesson and reattempt the quiz after a few days.
To complete the module you need to score at least 80% in all your tests , which is not very difficult if you've studied well.

Q. What is the language of instruction at IOU?
A. All courses are taught in English with the exception of advanced Arabic classes, only if you decide to enroll in them..

This sufficient I suppose for an introduction.
I decided to write this post as a lot of people have been asking me about it.
Although I started this with the intention of becoming a better Muslimah[2] , it seems it will hopefully have a positive impact on my career as well.Regardless of what impact it has on my career , I will continue to pursue it with the same intention I started with , Bi''ithnilla (by the will of Allah).
Which made me wonder if it can benefit me in so many ways , why would it not benefit you?[3]

Guess what I found?!?

Yesterday as I was exploring the PC , guess what I found??
Yes, more pictures from the Goa trip.
So today I'll continue with Fort Aguada...

The Light House

One of my Favorites!

Gone with the wind...

The Fort Aguada

This fort was constructed in 1613 to guard against the Dutch and the Marathas. It was a reference point for the vessels coming from Europe at that time. This old Portuguese fort stands on the beach south of Candolim, at the shore of the Mandovi River.

Here's what it looks like...

Our way back!

Gives this post a very historic feel :P

Moving on!

Here I am again!
Our next stop after the Aquarium was the Aguada Fort.
The fort lies on the shore of Mandovi river.

This is what we saw on the way...

Mosquarium ( The Mosque and The Aquarium )

Ok so if you remember I said I'd be spicing up my blog...and here I'am!
Well, in a state where 27% population is Christian , it was a bit of surpise for me to actually spot a mosque but then it was once ruled by Adil Shah of Bijapur so that explains it .
The picture below is of Jama Masjid.

Also there's this amazing Aquarium we visited.

Spicing it up!

Ever been in a situation where you want to do so many things and you've got the ability and the resources but still can't do it ?
Well,I've lived in it forever.
Your time is never really yours some of it belongs to your family, to your studies so on...and then there's that tiny little voice in your head screaming to be let out , that self of yours that doesn't fit in the schedule !
Ah...too philosophical!
Anyway the good news is exams are finally over and I've got the "me" time I've been craving for.
All I do the whole day is sit, read, eat, watch videos and sleep...and it feels so good.
I've also taken up some new hobbies and one of them is learning Urdu.
The language is quite realted to Persian and Arabic only that it has some traces of Hindi in it , or so my mum also my mentor in this new hobby of mine tells me so and while my friends keep cribing about how bored they are I'm enjoying this vacation to the fullest.
So here's where I'll stop , Insha allah  I'll try to bring on some spice to the blog which also means I'll be writing often.
So buh-bye till then...miss me! :)

Just my thing!

Felt like two months these two days. That's what happens when you have the college fest going on. The monotonous schedule gets spiced up and the usual me who gets irritated whenever someone gives an off lecture suddenly wishes for more of them.
There's a spontaneity in the air and me loves it!!
Well, Yes TechnoInnova happened!
And I couldn't help but participate as much as I can...and guess what?? Now I InshaAllah am going to have a huge collection of certificates. Isn't that amazing?
And there's more, as the National Holiday on 26th Jan was preceded by one more holiday  I could finally go for a proper vacation with my family...and Konkan is the place we all LOVE!
So visited a place called Kihim , not much crowd , no huge ugly buildings and no traffic...can anything be more pleasant than this?
So here are some pictures from the place...

The way water hits the rocks , enchanting!

With the waves...
Indeed Allah is the best of the creators!
Sunset...need I say more?
Couldn't be writing this post were Allah not so graceful with me.
And now it's time to get serious , exams coming up in 10 days and must start studying!
Till then , cheerio! :)

An Escape To Heaven

You know that feeling you get , like you're trapped and becoming stagnant?
That's what I feel if I don't travel...and hence this Saturday we (My family) headed out for a village near Pune.
It's pleasing to see the farms, non-concrete roads , Water Wells and no buildings. For a while it felt like a set of some movie. Houses made of bricks can't be real and hardly any vehicles...that's not even possible.
A few cement bunglows here and there and that's all.

Be Modest!

"I have the right to go around half-naked , it's the males who shouldn't be looking at me"
"Don't tell me what to wear, tell your son not to rape"
"My body my right"
That's what I've been hearing all around , are we thinking practically?
Can we really expect them to control their desires while women roam around uncovered?
Yes sisters ,  you do have the right to wear what you like/wish but why would you CHOOSE to wear clothes that can hardly be called as clothes.I'm in no position to judge anyone , I myself have been through phases where I thought 'Hey! That's the trend and why should I be left behind?" but sooner or later you realize doing it just for the sake of so-called "Trend" is foolish. I mean why should you try to blend in , if you want to be 'happening' shouldn't you be YOURSELF?
Don't you think we are being manipulated instead of being liberated?
Why does the guy always get the 'hot' girl in movies/serials/commercials?
Isn't it high time we re-define hot?
Many questions but I won't leave you to it , would you like to know the answers? Solution to all these problems ? Something better?
HIJAB!!!
Yes I said it , before you start accusing me of being an extremist/oppressor and the likes , how about you read on for a while?
"O Prophet, tell your wives and daughters and the believing women to draw their outer garments around them (when they go out or are among men). That is better in order that they may be known (to be Muslims) and not annoyed..." [Noble Qur'an 33:59]
That was 1400 years ago , look at the wisdom behind it!
When a woman is covered you can't judge her by her body , you'll have to evaluate her for her skills and intelligence. You actually see her as a person with feelings and respect her. You treat women as equals and don't chase them for their body or physical benefits. Hijab conceals a women sexuality while revealing her femininity.Would a male even think about teasing/molesting a woman while she is modestly dressed.
Hijab doesn't make a woman less attractive instead it gives an air of mystery , a message that she respects her body enough to preserve it. There are various scientific benefits as well but we'll leave them for now.
So what is a hijab you must be wondering ( unless you already know ) .Well it is what Muslim women do to protect their dignity. It includes a covering for head and anything that isn't too tight , transparent , bright and covers the whole body.Simple as that!
Well, too much said for women , what about men?
"Tell the believing men that they should reduce/lower (يغضوا) their gaze/vision and guard their private parts"[Noble Qur'an 24:30]
Hijab for men is prescribed as well , men are commanded to lower their gaze , respect women and give them their due rights.
"And the best among you are the one's who are kind to their women"-Prophet Muhammad.
And there's a lot to say but I'll leave you with this...think and reason for yourself. Next time you look in the mirror ask yourself , do you value yourself enough ?

Glimpses of Paris in Goa.

I've always wanted visit Paris , France , Italy and the likes . At times I yearned to be there , and I yearn no more since I've been to Goa , as the Europeans once ruled there and couldn't help but leave traces (should I say Monuments) of the amazing architecture .So what's in Paris , Italy etc. can be found here. At least some part of it .

Does it even look like Goa?

Walking down the memory lane...

New beginning!

Heloooo!
Yes I'm back again , and for a long time!
Exams got over about three days ago and since then I'm having fun unlike other vacations.
So as I said about my Goa trip...the pics are finally sorted out. Here they are-

Journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step!
This was the first snap I got, it was about 5pm , sun about to set . There's something about this picture that strikes me , whether it is the peach-ish tint from the sun or the new rails tracks , I don't know...it just does! :)
Look closer you might find the magic in it too! :)
For now...signing off ! :D

Where I belong!

Me- (Trying to be dramatic) "Oh! Some one rescue me".
Friend- (Yawns) "Huh...what...what lecture is it?"
Me-"Never mind"
These are my conversations now-a-days.
But there IS a silver lining..as I spoke earlier about the campus...absolutely amazing , just the place to be!
A lot's left to be explored...but I'll save the expedition for another day!
For now...here's how it looks like!

With the waves!

Hey , been a long time since I posted some snaps..well here are some from my Sea-shore trip!!
About the 1st one-
That might look like a normal rock but it hurts like hell when you step on it but it's beautiful anyway!
And the second one...well no I need no reason for that...I love sunsets , even if I see them every single day I cant stop clicking 'em!! :)

The awesome me!

Holaaaaa,
You know , I almost forgot I ever owned a blog , it must be such a disappointment for my readers ): .
Yea,eight of them who hardly check what I'm upto!
But atleast they  took the trouble to follow me..love you guys! :D
So let's talk about my college!
It's going great thanks for asking!
Btw we just had our freshers party...the most pathetic event in history of Bharati (My college)!
But we(our class) had fun...loads and loads and loads..then why do I call it pathetic? Well I talk for the freshers, who remained stuck to their seats through the whole event with a what-the-hell-are-they-talking expression on their faces,it surely got irritating after a while!
So tomorrow's teacher's day and well we planned a little something for our teachers but didn't work out,so we got an off day (Wohoo!!)
Ramadan passed like a rocket (too lazy to come up with a proper metaphor), Eid came and it was fun (as it always is!!)
Well , we've been planning our college trip for a while , I'm excited for it...as excited as I'm for my classes (Hope you get the sarcasm)!!
Whoaaaa!!! I killed it...I killed the mosquito that was annoying me from past 30mins!! I feel like Leonidas!! :D
Ok,that was pretty random!
Anyways I guess I'll stop now...whoa before I stop...I got 92% this time!!! (*toothysmile)
Could have done much better...but at the moment I'm like I totally rock!!
So adios amigos!!!
Do share what you guys up-to now-a-days..been out of touch lately! :)

Ramadan , college and stuff!

Good Morning ,
Loving the weather today - bit of drizzling , cold air , moist ground and fresh mud !
Adore it!
Anyways Ramadan has started , so has the hectic schedule , but it's good in a way...teaching me some time management...no doubt it's called The Blessed Month. And It was also my birthday yesterday , no words to describe it!! Amazing, the iftar part specially !
College is about just fine, seeing the first years and thinking that some time ago I was one of them , they look really  innocent in the beginning.
Doing some serious thinking lately...turned 17 and what have I done, what have I achieved???
Am I living my life as I'm supposed to?
Maybe I'm thinking a lot!
Anyways , good part is I've started liking maths..Can't believe I said that , but it's true!
The subjects this semester are easy and fun , just a bit of hardwork and I can go from 2nd ranker to 1st ranker!
And with that I'll stop!
That's all for today , I'll try to be regular!
